  • J. Michael Tatum he also did the voice as Tomoe in Kamisama Kiss, and all I was thinking when watching it was Sebastian from Black Butler, the two roles are so familiar. Then you hear him in Date A Live, in a role that is completely different from the two.

      • All the voice actors we’ve met at the conventions have always been pretty cool. The best was going to a panel: “Leah Clark Calls Your Friends”. Leah was the voice of Fuyuki in Sgt Frog and Blair in Soul Eater. I had her prank call my older son who couldn’t make it to the convention in the voice of Fuyuki. She told him that Sempai would never notice him (my idea) on his voice mail.

  • This is way off-topic, but you reminded me of something, especially as you included photos of the voice actors.

I am old enough to remember the “Yellow Submarine” movie in 1970. Except for the pre-recorded songs, and a live appearance at the end, voice actors were used instead of the real Beatles in the cartoon.

I can remember many fans were disappointed that the real Beatles were not in the movie. Looking back, the voice actors did a great job, and captured the fun and spirit of each member. Some fans said that the voice actors should not have been used because – get this – the actors did not LOOK like the Beatle they were voicing.

For example, the voice actor playing Paul was short, fat, bald and ugly. He could make himself sound exactly like Paul however. Fans said “Oh no THAT can’t be Paul”.

This just another example of the way people USED TO THINK. Group-think?

This must sound strange to a modern anime fan today.

    • Yeah that does sound strange but I think I know what you mean. Since in anime we only hear the voices of the actors and don’t see them it can be kind of surprising once you know what they look like. I think everyone including anime fans picture what the actor must look like who voices them and turns out to be surprised once they see what they really look like.
